You will not learn this rule at school, where teachers must use textbooks because education program. As you can hear you should burn your textbooks!
Don't listen to textbooks cds, they are fake! That's not normal English speaking. People don't talk like that - "Hi, how are you? I'm fine. And you?".
You should use:
- real materials for native speakers or similiar to them
- english books (interesting topic for you)
- podcast (interesting topic for you - VERY IMPORTANT)
- audiobooks
- materials easy to understand, you need understand about 80% without dictionary
